The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s International Grants and Scholarship Program scholarship is more than just financial help for Dorine Awino. “This scholarship is a symbol of encouragement and belief in my potential,” says the Africa University student. “It tells me that I am seen and that my efforts are recognized.”

The (GRASP) scholarship helps ease the financial burden of tuition and allows Awino to focus more on her studies and leadership roles at the university.

Awino is pursuing her degree while actively engaging in several leadership positions. As a female sub-warden, she helps manage the university’s residential community, overseeing administrative tasks, enforcing policies, and supporting students in their academic and personal growth.

She is also involved in campus ministry, leading worship services, participating in outreach programs, and providing pastoral care to fellow students. Awino serves as an usher and choir member at her local church and is the General Secretary of the East African student group at Africa University.

“This scholarship means more than just financial support,” Awino explained. “It is a token of appreciation from God and a reminder that my dreams are worth pursuing.”

For Awino, attending university is about more than just obtaining a degree. “It’s about expanding my worldview and developing critical thinking skills,” she said. “I want to be equipped to make a difference in my community and beyond.”
