“I’m incredibly grateful for this support. It’s more than just financial aid; it’s a sign that my church believes in me and my future. I’m motivated to keep working hard and give back, just as I’ve been given so much.”

— Munira Morris, Bennett College

Munira Morris, a student at Bennett College, is pursuing a future in corporate finance and a passion for community service, thanks to the support of General Board of Higher Education scholarships. These funds provide vital support for her studies, allowing her to focus on her coursework without the constant worry of financial barriers.

“My goal is to pursue a career in corporate finance, eventually transitioning to Wall Street,” Morris said. “These scholarships make a world of difference in helping me stay focused on my studies, ensuring I’m one step closer to achieving my dreams.”

Morris’ goals go beyond professional success. She is also deeply committed to giving back to her community, a value instilled in her through her church’s outreach efforts. Through weekly food pantries and neighborhood engagement, her church supports families with a message of faith and hope. Future plans include investing in affordable housing, ensuring others have access to safe, stable homes, just as her education has provided her with a stable foundation for success.

“Going to college is the first step toward my future,” Morris said. “It’s where I’m gaining the knowledge and connections needed to thrive in finance. But it’s also the platform I’ll use to create change, whether by investing in affordable housing or supporting other initiatives that uplift communities.”

As she prepares to graduate, Morris remains determined to balance her career goals with her passion for social impact. The scholarships from The United Methodist Church serve as both a financial resource and a reminder of the community’s faith in her potential.

“I’m incredibly grateful for this support,” Morris said. “It’s more than just financial aid; it’s a sign that my church believes in me and my future. I’m motivated to keep working hard and give back, just as I’ve been given so much.”

When [Sojourner Truth] was presented with arguments based on faith that would oppress women and former slaves alike, she asked, “Where did your Christ come from?” I think this is a great question that still resonates today. It makes me question myself, “How often has my faith served to justify my actions?” Too often, faith has served to justify genocide, wars, slavery, discrimination, and many other repulsive acts. Too often, we have used Christ to justify the evil that comes from our hearts.
