In its annual meeting at Southlands College, University of Roehampton, in London, England, the Board of Directors of the International Association of Methodist Schools, Colleges, and Universities (IAMSCU), an organization supported by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), formally elected Rev. Dr. Thomas V. Wolfe as IAMSCU president. Wolfe currently serves as president and CEO of the United Methodist-related Iliff School of Theology in Denver, Colorado. IAMSCU also elected Licenciado Adriana Murriello, the principal of Colegio Ward in Buenos Aires, Argentina, as its vice president.

Wolfe follows the former president, Dr. Marcio de Moraes, of Brazil who will remain on the board of directors as immediate past president. Before his election to the presidency, Wolfe had been serving as IAMSCU vice president and as acting president. Murriello steps into the vice-presidency, bringing with her a long experience in the fields of primary and secondary education, a priority for the association.

IAMSCU membership includes more than 1,000 affiliated educational institutions in the Methodist tradition in 80 countries spread over five continents. It represents a connection of more than 80 million Methodist-related communities worldwide.

Dr. Amos Nascimento, associate general secretary for the Office of Global Education and New Initiatives at GBHEM, said, “We have known Dr. Wolfe for quite some time, particularly for the great work he did as a former member of GBHEM’s board of directors, vice president of Syracuse University, and president of the University Senate of The United Methodist Church, among many other positions. We look forward to continuing to work with him, this time in an international role.”

“I am excited by the possibilities I see for IAMSCU, and I am both honored and humbled by this responsibility,” Wolfe said. “I am pleased with the direction of IAMSCU. I look forward to being part of its movement forward.”

Murriello stated that she was honored to accept this new challenge, “especially because this will help IAMSCU give more emphasis on primary and secondary education as important preparatory steps toward higher education.”

Other actions taken by the IAMSCU Board of Directors included planning for next year’s Board of Directors meeting, initiating planning for the triennial IAMSCU meeting scheduled for 2020, receiving regional reports, reviewing the organization’s financial status and approving the budget, and electing new members to the board of directors.
