GBHEM Scholarship Aids Callan Jacobson’s Journey Toward a Career in Investment Banking

Callan Jacobson, a finance student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities, is deeply grateful for the Rev. Dr. Karen Layman Gift of Hope Scholarship from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministries, which allows him to focus more on his studies and faith.
“I plan to work in investment banking in Minneapolis,” Jacobson shares. “This field can help small businesses grow or assist struggling companies, which aligns with my desire to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.” He sees his future work as not only a career but as a calling, combining his professional goals with his Christian faith.
Jacobson, a member of Normandale Highlands United Methodist Church, has always been committed to service. Through volunteering with organizations like VEAP, Feed My Starving Children, and local homeless shelters, he’s witnessed the power of community and the positive impact the church can have on those in need. “When people see the church’s work, they know we’re here to help. It shows the love and care of the Methodist Church,” he says.
The GBHEM scholarship has freed up Jacobson’s time and energy to devote to his education and relationships. “With this gift, I don’t have to work as much part time. It’s allowed me to focus on excelling in school, making new friends, and spending more time in worship,” he says.
