During the June 28, 2023 meeting, the University Senate voted to clarify which accrediting organizations satisfy the accreditation standards articulated in the Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church 2016 and the University Senate’s Organization, Policies, and Guidelines 2017-20201 for its 107 Senate-listed schools, colleges and universities.

Dr. Cynthia A. Bond Hopson, chief equity officer and assistant general secretary of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), has been appointed to serve as the interim president of Philander Smith College effective July 1, 2023.
Dr. Angella P. Current-Felder, who at the time was the executive director of the Office of Loans and Scholarships at GBHEM recognized this as an opportunity to make a difference. Her innate ability to be a “change agent” lead to the creation of the Angella P. Current- Felder Women of Color (WOC) Scholars program.
Very few understand this more than Rev. Dr. Kent A. Lundy. A United Methodist Elder in the Indiana Conference, Rev. Dr. Lundy currently serves as wing chaplain to the 181st Intelligence Wing Air National Guard in Terre Haute, Indiana.
