Mission: Equipping Leaders for Compassion, Justice and Belonging.
Claremont School of Theology (CST) is a graduate school that stands at the intersection of academic rigor, faithful practice and social transformation. For nearly 140 years, CST has formed leaders who embody compassion, justice, and belonging — leading congregations, nonprofits, classrooms and movements worldwide.
What We Stand For
CST equips bold, justice-minded leaders who serve churches, nonprofits, classrooms, and movements around the world. Our core values — Compassion, Justice and Belonging — shape curriculum, community life and public witness. United Methodist in heritage and intentionally interreligious, CST engages diverse traditions to address pressing global needs.
History & Renewal
Founded in 1885, CST has pioneered process, liberation, feminist/womanist and interfaith theologies. In 2024, the school relocated from Claremont to Los Angeles, reducing debt and investing in digital and in-person intensive technologies.
Global Reach
CST’s impact extends across the world — especially Korea, where Claremont has partnered with several universities. Doctoral programs and leadership in Korea continue to expand, creating international alumni networks of faith leaders.
Student Impact
Graduates lead in areas of immigration justice, climate resilience, anti-racism, gender equity, trauma care and interreligious peace-building — integrating deep scholarship with real-world practice.
Innovative Learning
Through in-person intensive and online learning, Claremont School of Theology connects in-room and remote learners worldwide. This model expands access for those balancing ministry, family, and work, while preserving the richness of graduate-level dialogue.
