“Your support has inspired me to continue striving for excellence and to give back to my community in meaningful ways. Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future. Your generosity has truly made a difference in my life.”

— Brittney Daniel, Paine College

Brittney Daniel, a psychology major at Paine College, is focused on making a difference in the lives of young people. Through her hard work, faith, and the support of The United Methodist Church, she is on a path to help transform the juvenile justice system. The Dorothea H. and Raymond Dier Scholarship and the UM Allocation Award are helping her turn her vision into reality.

“Going to college is important because it can educate you on so many things — from people and life to Christ and finances,” Daniel said. “College is where the real challenge begins, and it’s where the curiosity of your purpose starts to itch.”

Thanks to the generosity of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), Daniel can focus on her education and professional growth. Her UMN scholarships have significantly lightened her financial load, allowing her to fully immerse herself in her studies and extracurricular activities.

Beyond the financial support, Daniel’s experience at Paine College has deeply shaped her worldview. She recalls a community service project where she worked with her church to provide professional clothing for students at the campus boutique, with unused clothing donated to a local shelter.

Looking ahead, her aspirations extend beyond her undergraduate studies. “In five years, I will be a master’s graduate, working as a probation counselor at the Fulton County Juvenile Justice Center,” she said. “I plan to use my psychology degree to help juvenile delinquents identify themselves and reach their full potential. My ultimate goal is to establish one of the greatest alternative schools in the world.

“Your support has inspired me to continue striving for excellence and to give back to my community in meaningful ways,” Daniel says. “Thank you for believing in me and investing in my future. Your generosity has truly made a difference in my life.”

GBHEM Scholarship Program

GBHEM Scholarships offer financial aid to United Methodist students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees. Every year, an average of $4 million is awarded to help students in the United States and abroad pursue their dreams through higher education. With this financial aid, GBHEM is opening pathways for students of all backgrounds to earn their degrees and serve as the next generation of leaders for the church and the world. Learn more.
