Rule 2 Grants

How do I apply?

  • Go to and fill out the online application.
  • If you have never used the ISTS system used by GBHEM for Loans and Scholarships you may need to use the program key: GBHEMRULE2
  • Applications submitted outside this application process will not be accepted.

Who is eligible to apply?

To be eligible the applicant must be a United Methodist collegiate ministry, local church, district, conference or other United Methodist affiliated group/organization that serves college or university students.

When considering applying, please consider the following:

  • Applicants may apply for one grant from any Rule 2 Grant category in a given year.
  • Funds are to be completely expended within one full calendar year from fund disbursement.

What are the grants offered?

  • New Initiatives Collegiate Ministry Grants: Maximum of $4,500 per grant. Grants to support new programming, opportunities, or campaigns to expand the work of collegiate ministries.
  • Continuing Collegiate Ministry Program Grants: Maximum of $2,000 per grant. Grants to support ongoing programs and projects in collegiate ministries.
  • Student Initiated Grants: Maximum of $2,000 per grant. Grants originated by students to support ministry ideas within in their contexts

  • Grant Recipients Notified: June 1, 2018
  • Grant Checks Issued: July 1, 2018

What are the selection criteria?

Funding priority will be given to programs, projects, events, or opportunities that meet the following:

  • Sustainable: able to continue after the grant funds have been spent.
  • Reproducible: that others might learn from the original grantee’s experience to create a similar program, project, event, or opportunity in their ministry context.
  • Innovative: that creatively engage or advance the ministry’s work.
  • Leveraged: that rely upon matching/additional funds from other sources to multiply the impact of the grant.
