March 23 @ 8:00 pm - 9:00 pm CDT

In an exclusive conversation open to all, renowned travel expert and author Rick Steves will join the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) on Tuesday, March 23 at 8 p.m. CT for a live discussion on “Travel as a Spiritual Act.”

Led by GBHEM Executive Director, Rev. Dr. Tamara K Gieselman, Steves will share how his travels and experiences over more than four decades of exploring off-the-beaten-path destinations throughout Europe have led to a greater understanding of diverse people who live in different cultures.

Find out why Steves believes the most meaningful souvenir from travel is a broader perspective. Learn more about the spiritual value of traveling and how the ancient form of pilgrimage has a unique way of breaking down barriers so that the gift of transformation can create a more compassionate, empathetic world.

“For the first time in months, we are seeing light break through the shadows of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many of us are looking forward to safely booking our first excursion to anywhere. After living through such global trauma, a refresher course about meaningful engagement with people, whether across town or across the globe, seems utterly delightful,” said Gieselman.

“Rick Steves has traveled extensively and brings to the travel discussion useful information like the best time to dine on the Amalfi Coast when you find yourself wanting to avoid cruise ship tourists. But for those of us who believe in conversion, Rick’s compelling, sophisticated travel narratives evoke questions that prompt us to look inward and assess our own prejudices and biases,” Gieselman remarked.

At GBHEM, we help people respond to the calling that God has placed on their lives. The March 23 conversation will explore how one can travel, hear a call to change the world, and share these life-changing experiences with family and friends.

Registration for the event is free and open to all. Anyone who loves to travel is encouraged to attend.
