Leading in Crisis: When Internet Access Becomes a Barrier to Education
November 16 @ 9:30 am - 10:30 am CST
On Nov. 16 at 9:30 a.m. CST, GBHEM will host the final 2020 edition of its “Leading in Crisis” e-panel series. The discussion topic is “When internet access becomes a barrier to education.” Panelists will include the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Africa University, Prof. Peter Mageto, and President Suzanne Walsh of Bennett College.
Africa University is a United Methodist-related university in Old Mutare, Zimbabwe. In his role with the school, Prof. Mageto has helped oversee the transition to virtual learning for a multi-national student population from more than 25 different African countries.
Bennett College is also United Methodist-related and is one of two all-female, historically Black colleges and universities in the United States. In deciding to go all virtual for the 2020 fall semester, President Walsh has worked to maintain the level of close support and community that students and alumnae have come to expect from the college.
Both panelists will discuss what they’ve learned from the virtual transition, and what they’ve done to help vulnerable students who face barriers to digital education.
