GBHEM E-Panel Series

Now, more than ever, it is important for people of faith to continue dialogue together. As so much of our daily lives moves online, our lay and clergy leaders still need space to have rigorous academic discussions, share practical advice and join together in thoughtful contemplation. GBHEM helps create that space by offering regular e-panel discussions with thought leaders within the United Methodist Church and outside it.

We invite you to peruse our existing series below and check back regularly for information on new topics and speakers. All e-panels are streamed live to GBHEM’s Facebook page and YouTube channel. Full recordings of each e-panel will also be shared on those platforms.

Leading in Crisis

Leading in Crisis Hikers Visual

We are living in a uniquely uncertain time. Many church leaders are throwing their regular playbook out the window as we confront the dual pandemics of coronavirus and systematic racist violence.

Our new “Leading in Crisis” series is presented in partnership with the Council of Bishops’ Leadership Development Team, and it is designed to help clergy and their congregations chart a path forward in the months ahead.

We have invited a variety of experts to join these discussions and encourage the audience to participate by posting questions in the comment section on Facebook and YouTube. Each discussion will cover a slightly different aspect of leadership and offer diverse viewpoints.

Our first three e-panels in this series are:

Coronavirus at the Crossroads of Faith and Science

Coronavirus at the Crossroads of Faith and Science

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, GBHEM created the e-panel discussion series, “Coronavirus at the Crossroads of Faith and Science.” It brings experts in faith and theology together with leading scientists and researchers to discuss the full impact of the health crisis and how we, as United Methodist leaders, are called to respond. Through these virtual discussions, viewers have the opportunity to hear from physicians, theologians, biologists, social scientists, seasoned pastors, frontline chaplains and many more.

Upcoming discussion topics are shared in advance and our constituents are invited to email us questions related to that topic. GBHEM selects the top four or five questions to address in the discussion.

Each e-panel in the series will address a different aspect of this crisis and welcome new experts in science and theology:
