Coleman, Tyson & Siekman (CTS) Correctional Ministry Scholarship Endowment

The General Board of Higher Education has established the Coleman, Tyson & Seikman Correctional Ministries Scholarship Endowment Fund to assist:

  • endorsed chaplains seeking to complete the requirement for professional certification to serve as chaplains in correctional ministries
  • persons preparing to meet the requirements for endorsement to gain certification and training to serve as chaplains in correctional ministries.

Award amounts

  • Award amounts are dependent upon annual dividend returns from the endowed fund and the number of qualified/recommended applicants. Based upon these factors, it is anticipated award amounts will range from $700.00 to $1500.00 per year. Awardees may reapply for scholarship consideration annually.


  • Candidate must be a provisional or ordained elder/deacon or licensed local pastors in the United Methodist Church; or
  • Candidate must be a United Methodist seminary student on a candidacy track to ordained ministry
  • Candidate must submit an essay discussing their experience in and call to correctional ministry
  • Be committed without reservation to being engaged with criminal justice ministries (e.g., prison chaplaincy; prison-community reentry )


Application Deadlines

  • Applications open from January 1 – March 1 each year
  • Applications for ALL Scholarship Programs must be completed by midnight of March 1 for consideration
  • Notification of committee results will be sent via email to all applicants by July 31
