New Endorsement Application Coming This Fall

August 27, 2018

New online Endorsement Application

The United Methodist Endorsing Agency (UMEA) is completing preparations to move its endorsement process online this fall. The system will make the endorsement process more efficient for everyone: applicants, references, reviewers and the UMEA administrative staff.

Beginning in late September 2018, applicants will be able to fill out forms, upload supporting documents and request references through a web application created by Survey Monkey, an online software product. The system will send an email message to the applicants’ references, who will complete their portion of the application online. Applicants will be able to monitor the process online from start to finish, so they will know when each phase is complete.

The automated workflow will also allow interviewers and the endorsing committee to review applications online. The process will dramatically reduce the amount of emailing, printing, scanning and paper-shuffling required in the current process.

UMEA will charge a nominal application fee to help offset processing costs:

  • Professional chaplain or pastoral counselor (military or civilian): $50
  • Transitional intentional interim ministry specialist: $50
  • Military chaplain candidate program for clergy in training (seminarians): $20
  • Volunteer chaplain: $20

Fees will be waived until December 1, 2018.

UMEA will begin to phase in the new application system in late September 2018, with the goal for implementing the system in January 2019.
