The Publishing Office of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM), leadership development agency for the denomination, announced the release of a new book, “Introduction to Theology for Ministry” by Elaine A. Robinson. This book is ideal for teaching students the foundational beliefs of Christianity.

Written from a United Methodist perspective, this book begins with scripture and is true to the Wesleyan heritage. “Introduction to Theology for Ministry” helps define theology— its history, method, and language. Robinson systemically discusses basic doctrines, including God, Christ, Holy Spirit, Church, Last Things, and Humanity.

Robinson, professor of Methodist Studies and Christian Theology at Saint Paul School of Theology, has received endorsements from across the country. “This book is more than an excellent introduction to the study of theology,” said Henry (Hal) H. Knight III, Donald and Pearl Wright Professor of Wesleyan Studies and E. Stanley Jones Professor of Evangelism, Saint Paul School of Theology.

“Writing with clarity and insight, Dr. Robinson invites the reader into an engagement with the history, methods, and trajectories of Christian theology over the centuries,” said Larry M. Goodpaster (retired), bishop-in-residence, Candler School of Theology, Emory University. “She places Wesleyan theology within that broad stream and encourages us to connect that Wesleyan heritage with the practical realities of everyday ministry. This is a most helpful introductory volume for those just starting in ministry or those who need to review and expand their capacity for deliberative theological reflection.”

“Introduction to Theology for Ministry” is available at Cokesbury.com and Amazon.com. For more information about GBHEM’s Publishing Office, visit www.gbhem.org/about/publications.
