Ethnic In-Service Training Fund for Clinical Pastoral Education (EIST - CPE)

DOM/UMEA's EIST-CPE Fund, funded by the World Communion Sunday offerings, is used to provide stipends for racial and ethnic minority persons involved in all levels of ACPE-accredited Clinical Pastoral Education.

  • Ethnic endorsed or potentially endorsed persons seeking to complete requirements for professional certification, engage in advanced training appropriate to their endorsed setting, or enroll in ACPE Supervisory CPE training toward certification as an ACPE Supervisor.
  • Ethnic persons preparing to meet requirements for endorsement to gain certification, training or licensure in areas of specialized ministry (e.g. pastoral counseling).

Award amounts

Scholarship amounts are determined by financial needs, cost of program, and availability of funds not to exceed the amount of $2,000 per calendar year. Your application and verification forms will be reviewed and acted on by a committee approved by General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.


Persons applying for financial support from the CPE Scholarship Fund (EIST) must be:

  • United Methodist clergy, candidate for ordination or seminary student accepted into an accredited CPE program or an accredited counseling program leading to licensure or credentialing for pastoral counseling.
  • Chaplain/pastoral counselor seeking to enhance his/her credentials in the areas of pastoral counseling or pastoral care.
  • A racial/ethnic minority person.


  • After you have been accepted into an accredited CPE program, request a CPE Scholarship.
  • Apply online through the GBHEM, Higher Education Loans and Scholarship website
  • Complete the application and requested essays and electronically file by March 7, 2018
  • Your CPE supervisor will be asked to complete and return a Verification of Enrollment form.
  • Applications and verification forms will be reviewed by the scholarship committee.
  • Decisions on scholarship awards will be sent in July of each year.

Application Deadlines:

  • Applications open from January 3 – March 7, 2018
  • Applications for ALL Scholarship Programs must be completed by midnight of March 7, 2018, for consideration
  • Notification of committee results will be sent via email to all applicants by July 31
