Support the African Clergywomen's Consultation

Dear Clergywomen Sisters,

As you are aware, the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry is sponsoring the first United Methodist African Clergywomen's Consultation to be held in Mutare, Zimbabwe, February 1-4, 2012.

Despite funding from GBHEM and support from the 12 episcopal areas from Africa and from Africa University, some clergywomen, especially those from West Africa will need scholarships to travel to this historical gathering.

There are more than 1,500 clergywomen in Africa, and the design team is estimating that 250-300 of these clergywomen will be able to attend. The cost of travel could be as high as $2,500 to $3,000 per clergywoman, depending on which country they are traveling from. Most of these clergywomen are local pastors, though a few are ordained elders. They work for the church receiving minimum or below minimum wages.

I appeal to you to support your African clergywomen sisters so you can have the privilege of being a part of this historical event. Please give as you are able, so more clergywomen will be able to have an affirmation of their calling and to have leadership development opportunities provided through this event.

Use the "Give Now" button on this page to donate securely online. You may also send checks payable to GBHEM and send to

GBHEM c/o Director of Clergy Lifelong Learning
P.O. Box 440102
Nashville TN 37244-0102.

The memo section of your check should reflect UM African Clergywomen’s Consultation.

Hopefully, this event will open opportunities to nurture women's leadership in Africa and in the church. Thank you for your support in advance.

In Christ,

HiRho Y. Park, D.Min., Ph.D.
Director of Clergy Lifelong Learning
