Profile: Erin Fitzgerald

My name is Erin Fitzgerald and I joined the YASN standing committee in February 2010 as a representative from Vanderbilt Divinity School (Nashville, Tennessee). I am a third year Masters of Divinity student and am pursuing ordination as an elder in the West Michigan Annual Conference of The United Methodist Church. I feel called to pastoral ministry in the local church setting and am especially passionate about homiletics and liturgy, working with women and children, and advocating for social justice issues such as educational equality, immigration rights, and the reconciling movement with our lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered brothers and sisters.

I receive financial assistance from the Turner Leadership Scholars Program. Not only does this program support me educationally and financially, but it also permits me weekly opportunities to participate, practice, and reflect upon my work as “minister as theologian” as a long term intern in a vibrant urban congregation here in Nashville. The gifts and graces of this program create a well rounded theological education and the loving, supportive church members have knit me into their fold as if I were their own daughter.

When I am not studying or working in the church, I enjoy exercising, live music, reading for leisure, sitting in coffee shops, photography, and traveling. A Michigan native, I truly love spending time at the lakeside and watching sunsets on the beach.
