Enhance the effectiveness of theological education and training for ordained and licensed leadership in The United Methodist Church.

Strategic Objectives:

  • Promote and facilitate a focused discussion among church and seminary and theological school leaders regarding the role, scope, and effectiveness of United Methodist-related theological education for the training and continuing education of United Methodist clergy leadership.
  • Strengthen the efficiency and quality of the Course of Study program, including the connection between the theological schools and the Course of Study extension centers in the United States.

Strategic Outcomes:

  • Episcopal, denominational, and seminary and theological school leaders will have a better understanding of the relationship between The United Methodist Church and its seminaries and schools of theology, including expectations for training and continuing education for United Methodist clergy leadership.
  • More graduates with degrees in theology from United Methodist seminaries and schools of theology are ordained as clergy leaders.
  • Half of all Course of Study courses will be taught as hybrid/blended (classroom/ computer) courses.
  • Course of Study extension centers will have a stronger relationship and accountability structure to United Methodist seminaries and theology schools.
