BackTalk
by Susan Willhauck

Synopsis from Barnes & Noble:
"Willhauck has heard the church say to women: "Don't give me any Back Talk!" Too often, she contends, women have been told what to do in order to get ahead." "In Back Talk!, Willhauck will use this admonishing term in a positive way to help the church change for the better. She effectively discusses gender issues in leadership - recent changes as well as current changes - and identifies key areas in which change is needed and how women leaders have made changes." In particular, the book examines the growing leadership of ethnic women in the church, especially Korean, Latino, and African American women, and also shows how feminist, womanist, liberation, and Asian theologies serve as a resource for analyzing data concerning change.

Leadership Can be Taught
by Sharon Daloz Parks

Synopsis from Barnes & Noble:
Parks discusses the approach to teaching leadership called "case-in- point," developed by Ronald Heifetz at Harvard's Canter for Public Leadership, which takes to task the idea of born leaders. She describes Heifetz's multidisciplinary teaching method, which uses personal experience and seminar, simulation, presentation, discussion and dialogue, clinical-therapeutic practice, coaching, the laboratory, art, writing, and case study to teach leadership. She looks at its underlying theory, overall concepts including presence and authority, and use in social groups and the workplace. The experiences of teachers and those who have applied the method are discussed. Parks is Director of Leadership for the New Commons at Whidbey Institute in Washington.
