Greetings,It is with enormous pride, great enthusiasm and humility that I greet you as the third president of Clark Atlanta University, an institution with a rich heritage and a bright future. The founders of our parent institutions, Atlanta University and Clark College, long ago dreamt of a university that would draw students to a superior learning environment, and become a community of scholars forging a shared identity and developing world leaders.Clark Atlanta University is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2008 and since our inception in 1988, the University has been committed to preparing the next generation of leaders who can compete with graduates anywhere in the world. At CAU, we are proud of our legacy. Clark Atlanta University is the intellectual center of an international city. Our exemplary faculty is working to deepen and expand our research efforts across the entire range of academic disciplines. Our academic community flourishes because of our partnerships with organizations and individuals in this great city and beyond. Our students benefit from their experiences in and out of the classroom and have helped our university gain the distinction of being one of the most active issue- and service-oriented campuses in the country. As the largest institution of higher education in the Atlanta University Center, CAU offers an array of undergraduate and graduate programs in the liberal arts and professional degree programs in education, business, and social work. No other university is just like CAU. From our five Centers of Excellence -- each of which concentrates on a distinct specialty -- to our Carnegie classification as a Research University-‐High Research Activity, CAU is uniquely positioned to prepare students from all over the world to compete and contribute in a dynamic, global marketplace. Ours is a diverse population with wide-ranging interests and talents, but with shared ideals of academic freedom and excellence, and a shared purpose of service to the nation and the world. Clark Atlanta University is fiscally sound, the Academic Enterprise is strong and we have several construction and renovation projects under way. We are successfully executing our five-year strategic plan, our accreditation was reaffirmed in 2006, and our aggressive recruitment and retention program is showing early signs of making an impact on student retention. Throughout the years, alumni of CAU have benefitted from the knowledge, ideals, and experiences they received while pursuing their education, and we hope to engage them as we develop an even stronger imprint of CAU as a lifelong partner in the local and worldwide community. Clark Atlanta University is well on its way to greatness. The continued support of our partners like The United Methodist Church, Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters will ensure CAU’s growth and success well into the future. --Dr. Carlton Brown
Greetings,Clark Atlanta University is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2008 and since our inception in 1988 the University has been committed to preparing the next generation of leaders who can compete with graduates anywhere in the world. This concentrated focus on preparing future generations of new leaders has resulted in the creation of a superior learning environment that produces recognized leaders who Learn, Lead and Change their communities, the nation and the world. Clark Atlanta University exists to populate the world with leaders who know who they are; who are inspired by the past; challenged by the future; have an entrepreneurial spirit; an educated mind; an appreciation for the arts; a passion for excellence; and, a commitment to service. We have been conscientious about creating an environment where dreams are realized, minds are educated and leadership is born. A glimpse inside of Clark Atlanta University reveals an institution that encompasses the culture and the fine attributes of its two parent institutions, which were giants in the historically black college community. Atlanta University (established in 1865) and Clark College (established in 1869) provided a strong foundation for forming one of the nations largest historically black institutions. Clark Atlanta University was formed in 1988 as result of the historic consolidation of Atlanta University and Clark College. Therefore, we are defined by our rich history, our location in an international urban center, and our commitment to provide a learning environment that is characterized by excellence in teaching, rigorous academic programs, and cutting-edge basic and applied research. No other university is just like CAU. From our five Centers of Excellence -- each of which concentrates on a distinct specialty -- to our Carnegie classification as a Research University-]High Research Activity, CAU is uniquely positioned to prepare students from all over the world to compete and contribute in a dynamic, global marketplace. Drawing upon the spirit of greatness of the many men and women who graduated before them, CAU students continue to forge ahead toward achieving their dream of a college education. Likewise, Clark Atlanta University has persisted and triumphed throughout the challenges it has encountered over the years. Today, the University is stronger than it has ever been and signs of our vitality are visible to anyone who visits the campus as well as to the larger community. Clark Atlanta University is fiscally sound, the Academic Enterprise is strong and we have several construction and renovation projects underway. We are successfully executing our five-year strategic plan, our accreditation was re-affirmed in 2006, our five Centers of Excellence are actively pursuing their respective missions and our aggressive recruitment and retention program is showing early signs of making an impact on student retention. Clark Atlanta University is in a good place and well on its way to greatness. The continued support of our partners like The United Methodist Church, Board of Trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, and supporters will ensure CAU's growth and success well into the future. -- Dr. Walter D.
