Meharry Match Day 2008

Match Day is punctuated by shouts of excitement, tears of joy and the roar of laughter as students learn where they will advance to the next level of their medical training. One measurement of the success of a medical school is the degree to which its graduates are able to earn their preferred choices in the match.

Ms. Callie Thompson

Ms. Thompson is a cum laude graduate of the University of Washington, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Neurobiology. Following graduation she worked in the Seattle Children’s Home with homeless outreach and as a street links driver. She matriculated into the four-year curricular program at Meharry Medical College in 2004, and will graduate with highest honors in May 2008; number one in her class of 100 graduates. In recognition of her academic performance, Callie was elected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in her junior year.

Callie is a very driven woman with a strong record of academic success. Callie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Washington in only three years. She is highly organized with a true focus on excellence in every aspect of her scholarly work. Many of Callie’s professors commented that her clinical skills, intuition and fund of knowledge are significantly more advanced than that expected at this level of her training.

Callie has received numerous additional honors and recognition including multiple merit-based awards, the Dr. Scholl Scholarship and the United Methodist General Scholarship. She has established herself as a well-respected leader amongst her peers and is recognized for her compassionate and humanitarian approach by faculty and members of the community.

Ms. Claire Williams

During her undergraduate years at Xavier, Claire was a Howard Hughes Biomedical Summer Scholar and a member of the Howard Hughes Biomedical Honor Corps from 1999-2003. She was the recipient of the Xavier University Academic Scholarship Award for two years and she made the Dean’s Honor Roll.

Claire continued her strong academic performance upon entering Meharry as the recipient of numerous scholarships, including the Clark Memorial United Methodist Church Scholarship (3 years), the Robert Lewis Johnson 1978 Endowed Scholarship, the Meharry Medical College Alumni Scholarship and the United Methodist Foundation Scholarship (3 years).
