Nurturing Innovative Clergy LeadershipThe Division of Ordained Ministry of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry is launching a pilot continuing education program for clergy: Nurturing Innovative Clergy Leadership (NICL). NICL is a peer-based continuing education model. The goal of the program is to nurture healthy and competent UMC clergy. This program is particularly for United Methodist ordained and licensed clergy who have been serving the Church as a full time pastor for five or more years. Dr. D. Bruce Roberts is a consultant who is working with GBHEM for this program. Dr. Roberts is a co-editor with Robert E. Reber of A Lifelong Call to Learn: Approaches to Continuing Education for Church Leaders and a member of the research team doing a comparative study of the peer learning components in the Sustaining Pastoral Excellence Program, a national initiative of the Lilly Endowment, Inc. If you are interested in this program, please contact HiRho Park at eoneal@gbhem.org. Spiritual FormationSpiritual discernment is an integral part of formation for Christian discipleship. Discernment is a life-long process of discovering the activity of God within an individual and a community. It is a foundation for nurturing Christian leadership. More Policies and GuidelinesAn educated and learned clergy is necessary for growth in our church. The GBHEM Strategic Plan includes intellectual excellence as part of our core values. More Standards for Use of CEUsEducation has been characteristic of the Methodist movement form the beginning and continues to be vital for effective ministry More The Landscape of Continuing Education in The United Methodist ChurchThe General Board of Higher Education and Ministry express our gratitude for your participation in the January 2007 survey, The Landscape of the United Methodist Continuing Education. The research was conducted by Jennifer Phillips, Coordinator for Continuing Education and Academic Outreach at Drew University Theological School with collaboration of steering committee members. Please take a few minutes to review the results of the survey. Please use this PowerPoint presentation (230KB) for your annual conferences and constituencies as a discussion tool.
