President, Louisburg College

The Board of Trustees and the Presidential Search Committee of the oldest church-related, residential, coed, two-year college in the nation invite nominations and applications for the position of president. The new president will assume office in January 2009. Chartered as Franklin Male Academy in 1787, Louisburg College is affiliated with The United Methodist Church and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. Its 75-acre campus is located in Louisburg, North Carolina, approximately 35 miles north of the capital, Raleigh. The College’s mission is intentionally preparatory as it seeks to “ . . . provide a bridge for students to make a successful transition from high school to senior colleges and universities.” The average enrollment at Louisburg College is more than 700 students, and approximately 90% of its graduates go on to four-year institutions. Total full-time and part-time faculty is 68.

The College offers three associate degree programs and provides exceptional academic support services for all students, as well as specialized assistance programs for those with documented learning disabilities. The athletic opportunities available for men and women continue the long tradition of excellence in athletic competition. The new president must be committed to the mission of Louisburg College and be a highly motivated, energetic leader whose objective is to sustain Louisburg as the premier private, residential, two-year college in the Eastern United States. The president must be knowledgeable about and understanding of the issues surrounding private two-year colleges. The president must be an experienced administrator and a strategic thinker who is financially astute. The president must possess all the personal and professional qualities required to be a productive fund-raiser.

Campus Ministry and College Chaplaincy

Executive Director/Campus Minister

The Wesley Foundation serving UCLA is presently accepting applications for the position of Executive Director/Campus Minister. UCLA is a major public research university located on the west side of Los Angeles. This position oversees a growing campus ministry that focuses upon spirituality, nurture, worship, and mission. The Executive Director/Campus Minister works with students in constructing a spiritually engaging program that is inclusive of all students on the campus of UCLA, collaborates with Westwood United Methodist Church in its ministry of hospitality to young people, represents and promotes campus ministry within the California Pacific Annual Conference, works cooperatively within an ecumenical and interfaith on-campus organization called the University Religious Conference, leads the Wesley Foundation in fulfilling its mission, including long term fund-raising for this ministry, board development, and leadership training. The successful candidate shall be an active member of the United Methodist Church and shall possess a Master of Divinity or equivalent graduate degree from an accredited seminary or university. Life experience will be considered. The compensation package includes salary, housing, medical insurance, pension, and a professional expense account.

Director of the Center for Spiritual Life and Campus Chaplain

The position is a full-time, twelve month appointment reporting to the Vice President for Student Services. The Director of the Center for Spiritual Life plays a critical role, serving as the key facilitator of spiritual and religious engagement and dialogue on campus. The Director will serve the university community as pastor, develop and implement programming to enrich the religious, spiritual and intellectual lives of students and represent the college in its relations with the local religious community. Approximately 10-15% of the director’s time will be serving as Campus Chaplain at Gobin Memorial United Methodist Church.

 

Masters of Divinity degree or its equivalent; ordination, pastoral training and a strong theological background are required. Preference will be given to candidates with broad ecumenical and multi-faith perspectives. Candidate must be able to demonstrate significant experience working with individuals of diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds. A commitment to and history of mentoring students is important with preference given to candidates who have experience working on a college campus.

Executive Minister

United Protestant Campus Ministries in Cleveland is searching for an Executive Minister. UPCaM is a national award-winning ecumenical campus ministry supported by mainline Protestant denominations, individual congregations, and friends. It serves students at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland State University, and Cuyahoga Community College.

The primary responsibilities of the Executive Director, the only full-time employee at present, are as follows: to provide leadership, direction, pastoral care and support to student groups on several campuses; to supervise part-time professionals, support staff and student interns; to equip trustees for effective support of UPCaM’s mission; to promote UPCaM to individual congregations and denominational judicatories; and to creatively approach sources of additional financial support.

The successful candidate will be ordained minister with a Master of Divinity or equivalent degree. Five years of relevant experience is preferred. Experience in campus ministry desired. Demonstrated ability to function in a multicultural and multifaith environment and commitment to interfaith activities are important. Strong verbal and communication skills are essential. Computer literacy is expected.

This is a full-time, year round position. Salary and benefits are competitive, commensurate with experience.

University Interfaith Chaplain

Roger Williams University is a private, non-denominational and accredited Unisversity that seeks a University Interfaith Chaplain who will serve the spiritual needs of our students and University Community. The Interfaith Chaplain will provide opportunities for personal religious growth of members of the University Community through worship, counseling, workshops, and programming events. Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Students/Director of the Intercultural Center, the Chaplain will convene affiliated chaplains on a regular basis to coordinate spiritual support, facilitate monthly Interfaith Council meetings, minister special services, and coordinate religious life on campus. The Interfaith Chaplain will be open and affirming to all cultural and social identities and also serve as part of the Intercultural Center staff team. In addition, the Chaplain will act as an objective and independent mediator between various groups when needed, help promote community outreach, and be an advocate for spiritual life resources. This is a 10-month, part-time position open to any religious affiliation. The ideal candidate must demonstrate the ability to respond to the needs of all faiths, including but not limited to Muslim, Protestant, Catholic, and Jewish faiths.

Ordination is required as is 1 – 3 years or more of ministry experience. A Master’s degree in Theology, Divinity, Religious Studies, or equivalent is preferred. Experience on a higher education campus is a plus.

United Campus Minister

United Campus Ministries at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in Rapid City, SD is accepting applications for the position of United Campus Minister beginning in the summer of 2008. This full-time, established ecumenical ministry reaches out to the students of one of the country’s finest science and engineering universities, located in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Spiritual Life/Formation, develop student leaders as disciples, organize and lead regular worship service, Bible studies and local mission trips, Provide pastoral ministry for the UCM community at times of grief, with the ability to make referrals when necessary. Campus/Community: Foster relationships with clergy and churches in the Rapid City area, Maintain visibility at campus functions, meetings, sporting events, oversee the storefront UCM space located adjacent to the campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree, Master of Divinity degree or significant evidence of religious postgraduate studies or experience. Clear evidence of calling to serve in leadership to college students. Campus Minister

Iowa Wesleyan College is accepting applications for a full-time Campus Minister beginning in the summer of 2008.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Spiritual Life/Formation
    • Organize and lead regular chapel service, worship opportunities and mission trips.
    • Facilitate bible study groups.
    • Assist in providing Leadership opportunities for Religion majors and minors.
    • Organize special events: Conferences, retreats, seminars • Counseling o Provide spiritual and personal counseling for students.
    • Identify and coordinate community mental health resources for students.
  • Social Involvement
    • Foster campus awareness involving human justice issues.
    • Coordinate activities with RSI, Field Experience and community service activities on campus • Church Relations o Serve as liaison between Iowa Wesleyan College and the Iowa Conference of the United Methodist Church.
    • Foster relationships with clergy and churches in Southeast Iowa.
