About YASN

YASN is a network of United Methodist seminarians ages 35 and under and those concerned with the issues of those 35 and under who seek to:
  • support one another in their faith journeys
  • be bold advocates for social justice
  • have an active voice and role within The United Methodist Church
  • help people in discerning their vocations
  • support persons involved in the candidacy process
  • provide a safe community in which issues relating to ministry as young adults can be addressed.

The Young Adult Seminarians Network began in 2004 at Student Forum, the annual gathering of the United Methodist Student Movement. Twenty-six young seminarians representing seventeen seminaries met to envision and create this new network. Sponsored by the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) of the United Methodist Church and resourced by GBHEM’s Division of Ordained Ministry, YASN has a standing committee that includes representatives from all of the United Methodist seminaries as well as a few at-large representatives. This committee travels to a different seminary campus each semester to provide tools and training that go beyond the seminary curriculum to help United Methodist Young Adult Seminarians in those schools. YASN is also a part of the Exploration event for young people discerning a call to ordained ministry. These events, along with the network they help to create, show YASN's promise to help young adults before, during, and after seminary.

Seminaries and schools of theology are encouraged to form local YASN groups. The national network and the GBHEM office will help any local group to organize.
