  • Many delegates were surprised and even shocked by how quickly a far-reaching proposal that takes away the security of guaranteed appointments for ordained elders breezed by The United Methodist 2012 General Conference.

  • In her address "Leading for a New Church" during Ministers Week at Perkins School of Theology, Bishop Janice Riggle Huie (Texas Annual Conference) said: "One of the most important conversations occurring in the church today is around the calling, identification, recruitment, development, authorization, deployment, and assessment of this new kind of forward-leaning spiritual leader. I believe the ferment that is occurring is nothing other than the work of the Holy Spirit stirring up the people of the UMC and propelling us in new directions."
  • Africa's pioneering UMC clergywomen honored
  • More than 300 African clergywomen honored pioneering clergywomen and heard speakers who urged them to unite and lift each other up during the four-day African Clergywomen’s Consultation held at Africa University in Zimbabwe.
  • 11 women bishops head to Holy Land
  • Eleven ecumenical women bishops from the United States, West Indies and Africa will leave Nov. 12 for a 10-day trip to Israel, the West Bank and Gaza. The trip is sponsored by the United Methodist General Board of Church & Society (GBCS) and the denomination’s Council of Bishops.
  • Clergywomen's Consultation Held in Philippines
  • Clergywomen are no longer outsiders, instead they are “inside outsiders,” the Rev. Dr. Kim Cape told 206 clergywomen from the Manila, Baguio, and Davao Episcopal Areas of The United Methodist Church in the Philippines in her keynote address to a gathering of the Philippines Central Conference clergywomen.
  • Jennifer E. Copeland Receives National Award
  • The National Campus Ministry Association recognized Duke University’s United Methodist Chaplain and the Duke Wesley Fellowship, United Methodist Campus Ministry, with the organization’s top two awards this year during their annual conference at the University of California Berkeley. The Rev. Dr. Jennifer E. Copeland, United Methodist Chaplain for Duke University and Executive Director of the Duke Wesley Fellowship, was recognized for Outstanding Ministry in Education.
  • Lead Women Pastors Make Recommendations
  • The Lead Women Pastors’ Project, an effort begun in 2008 that aimed to increase the number of United Methodist clergywomen appointed to large churches, has completed both the research phase and a mentoring program. Those involved in the project are making a number of recommendations to bishops, cabinets, and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry.
  • Eleven Women Receive Seminary Scholarships
  • United Methodist students preparing for a career in ordained ministry will study side by side with Jewish and Muslim students at one of the church’s 13 schools of theology this fall.
  • Church Systems Task Force Report Released
  • The Church Systems Task Force (CSTF) jointly convened by the General Board of Pension and Health Benefits (GBPHB) and the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry (GBHEM) today released the final report on the impact of the employment systems of the Church on clergy physical, emotional, spiritual, social and financial health.
