A Future With Hope

Preparing a New Generation of Christian Leaders On behalf of the staff and directors of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry, I want to welcome you to our Web site.

We hope our Web site offers you the kind of helpful information, resources, and connections that will assist you and your church with your important work and ministries.

I invite you to join us in doing some of the most important, the most challenging, and the most inspiring work we will ever be called upon to do – developing principled Christian leaders for the church and the world.

The General Board of Higher Education and Ministry is the lead agency in providing assistance in developing principled Christian leaders for the church and the world – the first of the Four Focus Areas of the The United Methodist Church. We are setting out on a risky, yet exciting journey in a time of great upheaval. But God is in the midst of the tumult, beckoning us to follow, standing on the promise that “God has plans or us, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give us a future with hope.”

The mission of the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry is to lead and serve The United Methodist Church in the recruitment, preparation, nurture, education, and support of Christian leaders – lay and clergy – for the work of making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

We are committed to forging radical interventions. We know how to do radical things, as we did in building a world-class university on the African continent, even when naysayers inside and outside The United Methodist Church said we couldn’t and shouldn’t do it.

Here you will find information about who we are and what we do. From the second phase of Africa University’s master plan to online Course of Study classes, you will find resources that will help you join in the work of developing leaders for a global church.

Here you will find information about ordained and licensed ministry, loans and scholarships, our 13 United Methodist schools of theology, our 109 United Methodist-related schools, colleges, and universities; the Black College Fund, the Ministerial Education Fund, and many more programs that can provide guidance and resources in mentoring and developing new leaders and supporting and nurturing the leaders we have.

Join us as we embark on a new frontier of educating global and forming leaders for a global church.

Grace and shalom,
Jerome King Del Pino
