Yatta Roslyn Young is a woman who is helping fulfill a vision to “strengthen the witness and outreach of the church by giving persons working in various agencies and institutions valuable theological training as well as [official] recognition of their diaconal ministries.”

This vision was voiced in 2001 during a presentation at the Liberia Annual Conference by Paul Van Buren, an ordained deacon and former General Board of Higher Education and Ministry staff member. Its goal is the employment of people in various church ministries such as clinics, education, and rural development.

Yatta, an ordained probationary deacon from Liberia, is now a candidate for a master’s degree in theological studies at Perkins School of Theology in Dallas. She participated in the 2004 Deacon and Diaconal Formation Retreat and plans to return to Liberia as a lecturer at the university there.
