USA - Herbert Brisbon

Herbert Brisbon, Spartanburg, SCHerbert Brisbon
Spartanburg, South Carolina
United States

While he was a student at Spartanburg Methodist College, Herbert Brisbon became deeply involved in the campus ministry program and the United Methodist Student Movement’s Student Forum. Elected in 1998 to the steering committee of the UMSM, his creative involvement led to his election as chairperson in 2000.

During his time at the two-year college, Herbert met Bishop James S. Thomas. Recognizing the potential of this bright, energetic young man, Bishop Thomas encouraged him to complete his undergraduate studies at Clark Atlanta University.

At Clark Atlanta, Herbert participated in the Thomas/Shockley Summer Youth Academy, named in part to honor Bishop Thomas. This network recruitment program encourages young people to consider ordained ministry in The United Methodist Church as a deacon or elder.

Today, he is a senior student at Wesley Theological Seminary, a youth pastor at a United Methodist church in the Baltimore Washington Annual Conference, and a candidate for elder’s orders.
