The call to ministry Chebon Kernell heard at a church retreat in 2001 has helped him develop a clear life plan: “To serve the local church. Spiritually, it is a blessing.”

Chebon says, “I want to be the best pastor I can be. The best way to do this is through theological education.” A third-year student at Phillips Theological Seminary in Tulsa, Okla., this promising young Native American serves a student appointment at Pawnee Indian United Methodist Church and is director of interpretation and programs for the Oklahoma Indian Missionary Conference.
