Angela Gafford credits a scholarship from the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Office of Loans and Scholarships with helping her become a part of The United Methodist Church’s new generation of Christian leaders.

Now an ordained elder in the Texas Annual Conference and chaplain at United Methodist-related Simpson College, Angela received a scholarship while a student at United Methodist-related Millsaps College in Mississippi. She also participated in the first EXPLORATION event, designed to assist high school and college students discerning their calls to ministry. Completing her education at The Divinity School at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, she stands as an example of the church’s commitment to its young people.

“Scholarships and loans funded from the Student Day Offering are a continual reminder of the connectional nature of our denomination,” she says. “Special Sundays with offerings enable congregations to minister beyond their geographic boundaries. Scholarship and loan support is an important confirmation to young people who are committing their lives to ministry.”
