Elsa Bauman de Mendizabal grew up in Argentina and received her early education on the campus of the Colegio Ward School in Buenos Aires, where her father, a Methodist missionary, was headmaster.

After completing her college education in the United States, Elsa returned to Colegio Ward, where she taught for many years. She now serves as director general of the school, a Methodist-supported educational institution.

Colegio Ward began in 1913 to offer programs for children and adults in its elementary, pre-baccalaureate, baccalaureate, and post-baccalaureate programs.
