Strategic Priority 4

Support young people in identifying and forming their vocations as ordained Christian leaders.

Strategic Objectives:

  • Engage and train annual conference boards of ordained ministry to better understand the vocational needs of young people.
  • Update and strengthen resources to assist in discernment and recruitment of young people for ordained ministry in The United Methodist Church.
  • Provide the most effective opportunities for young people to discern the call to ordained ministry.

Strategic Outcomes:

  • Boards of ordained ministry will be trained to understand the vocational needs of young people and will have plans for working with young people regarding vocational discernment. 
  • Boards of ordained ministry will have contextualized plans for the invitation, nurture, and retention of young adult candidates and clergy.
  • Comprehensive age-appropriate resources are available across the church in multiple forms.
  • An increased number of young people under the age of thirty will be on the path to ordination.
  • An increased number of young people under the age of thirty-five will be in the ordination process.
  • An increased number of multilingual young clergy will be capable of serving in cross-cultural settings.
