Expand GBHEM’s support of global higher education, leadership development, and theological education.

Strategic Objectives: 

  • Strengthen the quality, access, and sustainability of theological education in Africa in collaboration with the General Board of Global Ministries and United Methodist Communications.
  • Strengthen Africa University (AU) as the anchor institution for delivering United Methodist-related higher education on the continent of Africa.
  • Identify and promote innovative programs and initiatives for leadership development in all the central conferences.
  • Support the development of resources for theological education that will connect eastern, western, and central Europe, using the European distance education program.
  • Partner with GBGM in support of shared projects in global education. Enhance the partnership with the autonomous churches and Methodist educational institutions of Latin America, and the churches of the Caribbean and the Americas for training of clergy and lay leadership.

Strategic Outcomes:

  • Theological education, both at seminaries and in the Course of Study, is available to people in all the central conferences of Africa.
  • Through continued church giving, investment income, grants, and tuition, Africa University will have adequate resources, equipment, and personnel to deliver high-quality higher education on the continent of Africa.
  • Leadership development programs are established and are used for training church leaders, lay and clergy, in the United States and in the central conferences.
  • The distance-learning network is operational across Africa.
  • The eAcademy will be fully operational throughout Europe.
