  • After 15 months of leading United Methodist-related Africa University in an interim position, Fanuel Tagwira has been named the school’s third vice chancellor. Tagwira, 51, was appointed to the post April 4 by Africa University’s board of directors its April 1-4 meeting.

  • The economic climate of Zimbabwe is making it difficult for some Africa University students to pay their fees and continue their education without further scholarship and financial aid assistance.

  • The excitement was palpable on the campus of United Methodist-related Africa University, as students and staff gathered in clusters to discuss the implications of Barack Obama’s presidency for their continent and the world.

Darfur students offered Africa University scholarships

Darfur Peace & Development Organization and Africa University are working together to provide scholarships for two Darfur students to attend United Methodist-related Africa University in Mutare, Zimbabwe. The organization provides humanitarian and development assistance to the victims of conflict in Darfur, Sudan, without regard to ethnicity, gender, age or religious beliefs. It works to foster reconciliation, to facilitate just governance and to enable Darfurians to rebuild their homeland in effective, sustainable ways. Eligible candidates will be third-year, fourth-year, or recently graduated high school students in Darfur who are interested in pursuing a career in the fields of public service or community development. About Africa University

Africa University opened in March 1992 as the first private, international university in Zimbabwe.

Africa University, located in Old Mutare, Zimbabwe, is the first fully accredited, United Methodist-related institution on the African continent established by action of the 1988 General Conference. The university opened for classes in 1992 with 40 students and currently has an enrollment of 1,246. There are six faculties or colleges: theology, education, agriculture & natural resources, management & administration, humanities & social sciences, and health sciences. There are five postgraduate faculties: agriculture, management & administration, theology, health sciences, and peace, leadership & governance. Congregations and individuals support Africa University across The United Methodist Church.
