- New Clergy Mentor Training Resources from the Lewis Center
- The Lewis Center for Church Leadership has assembled a new collection of video-based resources for training clergy who mentor other clergy -- particularly those new to pastoral ministry. Informed by the Lewis Center's extensive research on the effectiveness of mentoring programs for those in their first years out of seminary and by the Center's work on the leadership development needs of younger clergy, these resources are designed to take clergy mentoring to the next level by augmenting denominational training materials.

- The 1966 television series Mission: Impossible was one of my favorite shows and I confess, I am a fan of the movie series.
Mission: Impossible were an elite force of agents who were given orders by tape and asked to do jobs that seemed impossible by any other way. This team of five relied on technology and some unsavory means to accomplish their goal. Each person not only shared their expertise to achieve the ultimate goal, they were united working together to successfully complete their mission impossible.
- Racial – Ethnic Clergywomen Grow Churches
- The United Methodist Church of the Disciple is a recent recipient of an Ethnic Local Church Concerns Grant for Church and Community Revitalization from the General Board of Church and Society. The overall goal is to rebuild the church which has experienced decline in this transitional community. Grant funds have been used to advance the outreach ministries as the church has begun to grow again through its intentional focus on community outreach ministries in support of women, men and children.

- The Rev. Erin Elizabeth “Beth” Luton, who joined the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Division of Ordained Ministry as assistant general secretary on June 16, 2008, died July 27 after a recurrence of breast cancer. She was 55.

- Elenora Cushenberry of New Orleans was working on her Doctorate of Theology in Pastoral Counseling when Hurricane Katrina hit, causing major losses for her and her family – and making it hard for her to focus on her studies.

- Mazvita Margaret Machinga has been selected as a Women of Color Scholar, the first Africa University graduate chosen for the program.

- Pamela Lightsey, a United Methodist Woman of Color Scholar, has been named Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary.

- Women who have cracked the stained-glass ceiling are still pioneers in The United Methodist Church, according to research that found 9 out of 10 lead women pastors of large membership churches are the first woman to lead that church.

- A new DVD provides moving accounts by elders, deacons, chaplains, and pastoral counselors about what it means to be called to ordained ministry in The United Methodist Church.
- United Methodists in Africa elect first female bishop
- The Rev. Joaquina Filipe Nhanala was elected July 23 as the first female United Methodist bishop in Africa.
- Eleven women receive seminary scholarships
- The 11 scholars awarded the 2008-09 Georgia Harkness Scholarships will visit the Honduras in December as part of a continued program of global women’s leadership development begun last year.
- The Rev. Teresa Cook Receives the Late Bishop Marjorie Matthews' Ordination Stole
- On Mother's Day Sunday, May 10, 2008, Barbara Isham came to my church and put Bishop Marjorie Matthews’ ordination stole on me. Isham, a niece of Matthews, said she waited until Mother's Day to give me her aunt's stole. Bishop Matthews was the first female bishop of the United Methodist Church in the United States.
- Dr. Wendy J. Deichmann Edwards elected President of United Theological Seminary
- On Friday, February, February 22, 2008, the Board of Trustees of United Theological Seminary elected Dr. Wendy J. Deichmann Edwards as its President, effective February 25. She has been serving as Acting President since November following the resignation of former President G. Edwin Zeiders.
- Spirit Filled Gathering: The United Methodist Racial/Ethnic Clergywomen's Consultation 2008
- Almost 300 women attended The United Methodist Racial/Ethnic Clergywomen’s Consultation on January 3-5, 2008 in Radisson Hotel at the Los Angeles Airport, LA, CA. Registered participants included 125 African-American clergywomen, 54 Asian-American and Pacific Islanders, 30 Hispanics/Latinas, 18 Native Americans and 10 Caucasians.
