Wingfield Named Assistant General Secretary for Clergy Life

The Rev. Myron Wingfield, superintendent for the the San Diego District in the California-Pacific Annual Conference, has been appointed assistant general secretary for Clergy Life in the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry’s Division of Ordained Ministry.

The appointment, effective Jan. 7, 2013, was made on the recommendation of GBHEM’s search team and confirmation by Bishop Minerva Carcaño.

Wingfield will oversee and guide the work of supervision within The United Methodist Church by providing resources for various forms of pastoral supervision and clergy support systems. He will report to the Rev. Gwen Purushotham, associate general secretary of GBHEM’s Division of Ordained Ministry. He will provide ongoing support for conceptualization and implementation of systems of supervision, support, and accountability within the church.

Hill will also provide leadership and supervision of the clergy life team of the division in consultation with Purushotham.

Wingfield, an ordained elder in the California-Pacific Conference, has served as a district superintendent for the past six years. He has nine years of leadership on the conference Board of Ordained Ministry and been instrumental in leading the San Diego District in the formation and implementation of seven mission areas for the collaboration of clergy and congregations in mission and ministry.

Wingfield received his Master of Divinity from Candler School of Theology and a B.A. in religion from Emory and Henry College.
